SYSTEM 7 Process Explorer®

The Evolution of a Revolution in
Process Simulation Software™
The SYSTEM 7 Process Explorer® graphical
user interface provides quick and efficient development and simulation
of process flowsheets consisting of streams and unit operations. Output
is made available in Process Notes™ for each stream and unit operation
that can be docked as desired for ongoing analyzes. A detailed custom
report can be exported to Microsoft Excel with all inputs and outputs
available in Microsoft Access format.

Creating a Flowsheet: A flowsheet is created
by opening a flowsheet and clicking on feed streams, product stream, and
unit operation icons in the SpeedDraw Tools Pallet and clicking on the
Process Explorer workspace. This process can be repeated until all of
the desired feed streams, product streams and unit operations have been
placed on the flowsheet. Then the stream drawing tool is selected to
connect feed streams, product streams, and unit operations to complete
the flowsheet development. Alternatively, the SpeedDraw ‘arrow’ icons
can be clicked on to create a stream and the next unit operation or
product stream as selected in the SpeedDraw Tools Pallet.
Running a Simulation: Once the flowsheet and
data has been entered, select the Start icon to run the flowsheet
simulation analysis. The streams in the flowsheet will change to green
for gas, blue for liquid, and orange for multi-phase to indicate the
calculated phase of each stream as a result of the simulation run. By
moving the mouse pointer over any stream or unit operation, a Process
Note appears with all important results displayed in miniature
spreadsheet format. The process notes disappear when the mouse is
moved away.
Process Explorer Interface: The SpeedDraw
Pallet provides all flowsheet development and navigation tools for quick
data entry. Zoom In/Out and Zoom Window buttons are provides for
adjusting the zoom level along with an indication button of % zoom which
can also be clicked on to specify the precise zoom level. The top
section of the SpeedDraw Pallet provides 8 directional arrows to create
a stream from the currently highlighted unit operation to the unit
operation selected in the pallet. Feed streams, product streams, and
unit operations can also be created by selection in the pallet and then
clicking on the Process Explorer graphical user interface. The stream
tool allows for connecting intermediate and recycle streams to complete
the flowsheet development. A freeform label with a border can be created
for highlighting sections of a flowsheet, providing custom labeling, and
displaying graphical bitmap images.
Thermophysical Properties: A process
simulator is only as good as the thermophysical property data that it
delivers. SYSTEM 7 Process Explorer provides the world’s leading
thermophysical property data options by bundling the basic Dortmund Data
Bank Software Package (DDBSP) with SYSTEM 7 along with full regression
capabilities to accurately fit model parameters. For critically
evaluated pure component data coverage, SYSTEM 7 provides the AIChE
DIPPR® Database for selection of pure components and retrieval of the
associated pure component properties. Psuedo Components can be specified
by clicking on the Pseudo Component node in the tree view and entering
its boiling point and specific gravity. Select the Property Slate –
either ‘Oil’ or ‘Chemical’ to provide an accurate and complete
thermodynamic specification for your simulation analyzes. The Property
Slate selection determines all property routes/methods to provide the
best possible accuracy for the system being analyzed. Highly tuned
binary interaction parameters for the selected components will be
automatically retrieved and utilized when available.
A matrix of coverage is shown for the liquid fugacity binary interaction
parameters that have been loaded. If interaction coverage is not
available, a warning is provided and binary parameters can be fitted
from DDB experimental data and entered for either one time use or stored
for automatic use in the future (requires the DDB VLE Data Bank).
With the same thermodynamic engine and
methods used by the 8th Edition of the API Technical Data Book, SYSTEM 7
provides the recommended approach from today’s leading thermodynamic
experts to help insure accurate results without the need to have a
detailed knowledge in thermodynamics. Combined with the Dortmund Data
Bank - SYSTEM 7 provides Intelligent Thermodynamics ™ to help insure
accurate simulation results.
Advanced Features: With extensive
customization capabilities through internal Function unit operations or
external Excel calls, SYSTEM 7 provides a flexible, programmable process
simulation environment. Access any stream or unit operation parameter
directly through SYSTEM 7’s object-oriented architecture or use VB for
Applications to build your own custom simulation solution in Excel.
Link your simulations with your plant data historian through Excel to
provide online performance and analysis capabilities.
A Total Solution: SYSTEM 7 Process
Explorer includes Engineer’s Aide SiNET™ and CHEMPRO™ for simulation of
pipeline networks, flare headers, and pressure relief valves with
equipment sizing for pumps, fans, compressors, heat exchangers, tanks,
vessels, etc to provide a total process engineering solution for your
company. Improve both plant safety and profitability using SYSTEM 7’s
field proven computational engines, intuitive interface design and
industry standard thermophysical property data.
